BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - A Bridgeport man has been sentenced to a year in prison for ramming an unmarked law enforcement vehicle with his own car as he fled from a drug bust.

Federal authorities say a special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was injured in the crash on June 16.

Thirty-nine-year-old Bernard Pettway was sentenced Wednesday in Hartford federal court. He pleaded guilty in October to one count of assaulting a federal agent with a dangerous weapon.

Prosecutors say the ATF agent and a Bridgeport police officer positioned their vehicle to block Pettway’s escape when he rammed into its back end. Pettway fled the scene and was apprehended later in the day.

Several agents were involved in an operation targeting violent crime and weapons trafficking.
