MENDOTA, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a Central California man was shot and killed outside the restaurant where he worked as a cook.

Tony Botti of the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday that witnesses of the early morning shooting at Cecilia’s Restaurant in Mendota saw three men fleeing from the restaurants parking lot. Mendota is a small farming community about 35 miles west of Fresno.

Botti says the victim has been identified as 50-year-old Jose Tabares.

Botti says investigators are talking with the man’s relatives to determine if he had enemies and to establish a motive.

Botti says that no arrests have been made.
