BLACKFOOT, Idaho (AP) - The Blackfoot City Council in eastern Idaho has unanimously rejected a proposed ban on plastic bags.

KIFI-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1y4dkrd) that council members at the meeting on Tuesday said research they did led them to conclude such a ban would be government overreach.

Snake River High School senior Hayley Lemon proposed the ban in February as part of the 16-year-old’s senior project.

The council at its next meeting is scheduled to consider the city’s ordinance prohibiting alcohol sales on Sundays.
