ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - Los Angeles County authorities say an 18-year-old man has died after jumping from the top of a waterfall into a pond in the San Gabriel Mountains.

Officials say Jesse Yuth of Signal Hill died after making the increasingly popular jump over Hermit Falls on Wednesday morning in the Chantry Flats hiking area.

A sheriff’s statement says two younger teens jumped in after him and were airlifted out and treated at a hospital for hypothermia.

The waterfall is a hiking destination and has become popular with people seeking to jump into the pool at the bottom. A 19-year-old college student died making the same leap in 2013.

Chantry Flats is in the mountains above foothill suburbs northeast of Los Angeles.
