ELIZABETH, N.J. (AP) - A former juvenile detention officer accused of having a sexual relationship with a teenage detainee will not have to serve a prison term.

Union County prosecutors say 38-year-old Sherrie Brown-Braswell of Raleigh, North Carolina, received a two-year probation sentence after pleading guilty to sexual contact on March 30. She had also been facing a sexual assault charge.

Authorities have said the sexual contact between Brown-Braswell and the male detainee occurred between March 2012 and January 2013 at the Union County Juvenile Detention Center in Linden. They say all the contact occurred while Brown-Braswell was on duty.

Brown-Braswell resigned her position with the county in 2013.
