NEW YORK (AP) - Police say a 4-year-old Staten Island boy was injured when a man threw a rock toward a group of children.

They say Marcillio Perez was involved in a verbal dispute with a crowd nearby when he tossed the rock across the street and hit the child Monday evening.

The boy was standing with his 11-year-old sibling at the corner of Jersey Street and Stanley Avenue.

The Staten Island Advance (https://bit.ly/1Go0TJS ) says he suffered heavy bleeding, lacerations and required stitches.

Perez was arraigned Tuesday on charges of misdemeanor assault, endangering the welfare of a child and other charges. He was held without bail.

It wasn’t immediately clear if he had a lawyer.
