NEWBURGH, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities have accused a 26-year-old man of beating to death another man outside a Hudson Valley bar and restaurant last week.

The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reports (https://bit.ly/1DjVkJO ) that police in the city of Newburgh announced Tuesday they’ve charged Alvaro Ramos-Lopez with second-degree murder in the slaying of 40-year-old Armando Soriano-Martel.

Police say Ramos-Lopez used a metal pipe to beat Soriano-Martel to death early last Friday morning outside a bar on Washington Street. The victim’s brother says he had drinks with his sibling at the bar but had left earlier in the morning.

Soriano-Martel, a native of Honduras, later died at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh.

Ramos-Lopez is being held Wednesday in the Orange County Jail without bail. Prosecutors say he’s in the process of being assigned a lawyer.
