HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP) - A High Point man has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the 2012 death of his newborn son.

Local media outlets report a jury took two hours on Wednesday to return its verdict against 22-year-old Brian Jack Frazier. Superior Court Judge Richard Doughton sentenced Frazier to life in prison without parole, saying it was “absolutely horrible what happened to that little child.” Doughton also denied a defense motion for a lesser sentence.

Frazier admitted on Nov. 27, 2012, that he grabbed 13-day-old Khan Lee Frazier by the throat and punched him several times.

An autopsy showed the infant had bruises on his face and torso, and bleeding on two different areas of his brain.

The mother, Stefany Ash, also is charged with murder. No trial date has been set.
