LANSING, Mich. (AP) - A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to 32 to 48 years in prison for second-degree murder and armed robbery in the slaying of a Michigan State University student at his off-campus apartment.

Marquay McCoy of Grand Rapids pleaded guilty March 6 in Ingham County Circuit Court in Lansing. Judge Clinton Canady sentenced him Wednesday.

McCoy admits he fatally shot 20-year-old sophomore Dominique Nolff of Middleville in January 2014 in East Lansing’s Cedar Village area. McCoy says he also shot and wounded Nolff’s 20-year-old roommate.

Before the sentencing Wednesday, Melissa Hurt told McCoy that the killing ended a life of promise for her son.

She says McCoy’s action means she’ll never see him graduate or marry, and she says she’ll ache for the rest of her life.
