DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Police say a mentally ill Daytona Beach man killed his wife during an argument over his refusal to take his medication.

Johan Chiri was arrested Tuesday after police found him in the water near the Seabridge Bridge in Daytona Beach on Tuesday. Authorities had been looking for him since his 12-year-old daughter called 911 earlier Tuesday. The child discovered her mother’s body in the apartment when she woke up to get ready for school. A 10-year-old girl was also in the house.

Deputy Police Chief Craig Capri said Milena Chirir’s throat had been slashed. He says her husband was cleared medically and was arrested on Tuesday. He’s facing first-degree murder charges. Records don’t show whether he’s hired a lawyer.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal (https://bit.ly/1E3Sjy2 ) reports the children are with their grandparents.
