KERHONKSON, N.Y. (AP) - Minnewaska State Park Preserve in the Hudson Valley is being expanded by 602 acres.

New York officials say the expansion of the park in Ulster County comes from two parcels acquired from the Open Space Institute for $2.4 million from the Environmental Protection Fund. Officials say the purchase will lead to improved trails in the Shawangunks (SHAWN’-guhnks) and help protect the Witch’s Hole Conservation Area within the park.

Minnewaska State Park Preserve is now 22,881 acres. The park includes waterfalls, three lakes, 35 miles of carriageways and 25 miles of footpaths.
