ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. (AP) - A New Milford police officer resigned before he was arrested on drug charges in Elmwood Park.

Officers found 28-year-old Daniel DeMarco in a parking lot on Friday.

New Milford Detective Sgt. Brian Long tells The Record (https://bit.ly/1akfs3h ) newspaper DeMarco’s resignation was effective two days earlier on April 1. But Long was not sure when DeMarco actually submitted the papers.

Elmwood Park Police Chief Michael Foligno said DeMarco had identified himself as an officer after he was charged with possession of one bag of crack cocaine, possession of a syringe and drug paraphernalia, and being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.
