FONDA, N.Y. (AP) - A 48-year-old farmer from the Mohawk valley has been found of guilty of sexually abusing six Amish boys over several years.

A Montgomery County Court jury on Tuesday convicted Robert Madsen of St. Johnsville of 37 of 40 counts against him, including a charge of predatory sexual assault.

Prosecutors say Madsen, who isn’t Amish, abused six boys from two Amish families over the course of several years. The victims were between 12 and 16.

Police began their investigation early last year when a then-20-year-old Amish man said he had been sexually abused by Madsen when younger.

Madsen will be sentenced May 27. His attorney plans to appeal the verdict.
