BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Jasper Schneider is resigning from the U.S. Department of Agriculture after serving several years in prominent state and federal posts.

Schneider was appointed USDA Rural Development state director in September 2009. Last October, he was named acting administrator of the Rural Utilities Service in Washington, D.C.

Schneider says he’s stepping down on April 19 to return to the private sector in North Dakota. Federal Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said in a statement that Schneider’s “hard work will be missed, but his impact will endure.”
