MAGNOLIA, Ark. (AP) - Southern Arkansas University has selected a former assistant from a conference rival as its head women’s basketball coach.

The university’s athletic director announced the hiring of Julio Pacheco on Wednesday. He replaces Rusty Rainbolt, who resigned last month after going 9-18.

Pacheco previously served as the top assistant at Great American Conference rival Arkansas Tech University. He helped guide the team to four regular season conference championships and a 168-42 record in his seven years with the program.

Pacheco is the sixth head coach in program history.
