GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) - A special prosecutor has been assigned to the drunken driving case involving the former Campbell County sheriff’s son.

The Gillette News Record reports (https://goo.gl/MJcb79 ) the Campbell County Commission appointed Johnson County prosecuting attorney Tucker Ruby to the case Tuesday.

Seth Pownall was arrested on a DUI charge Aug. 9 and arrived at the county jail with a blood alcohol level measuring 0.15 percent, nearly twice the legal limit for driving. According to the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, former sheriff Bill Pownall asked a deputy a few days later to file a less serious charge.

County Attorney Ron Wirthwein says a special prosecutor was appointed “to avoid situations where someone could argue that there is a conflict of interest.”
