LISLE, N.Y. (AP) - A state hazardous materials team is monitoring the spilling of thousands of gallons of liquid manure along a rural upstate New York road.

State police say a 43-year-old man was driving a tractor-trailer hauling about 4,000 gallons of liquid manure around 6 p.m. Tuesday when he drifted onto the soft shoulder of the road and overturned in a ditch in the Broome County town of Lisle (LYE’-uhl), 50 miles south of Syracuse.

Troopers say the load of manure wound up spilling into the ditch, roadway and private property located there.

The accident is being investigated by the state police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit.

Troopers say the spill is being investigated and monitored by the state Department of Environmental Conservation’s Spill Response Team.
