MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Owners of businesses along a main Myrtle Beach drag want police to discourage Memorial Day visitors from skipping the traffic jams and partying in their parking lots.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports (https://bit.ly/1Od0dba ) restaurant owners want police to cut down on drivers pulling into their large parking lots along U.S. Highway 17.

Tens of thousands of people travel to the Grand Strand during Memorial Day weekend. Some are motorcyclists meeting for Atlantic Beach Bikefest while others just want a long weekend at the beach.

Three people died and seven were injured in eight shootings last year along Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach.

Horry County police Chief Saundra Rhodes said officers will shut down parking lot parties if they see them. Police also encouraged businesses to hire private security,
