ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York’s governor has named former Syracuse Mayor Matthew Driscoll to be the state’s next commissioner of the Department of Transportation.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the nomination on Thursday.

Driscoll was mayor of Syracuse from 2001 through 2009. He was most recently president and chief executive officer of the New York State Environmental Facilities Corp., the state agency that provides financing for municipal water and sewer projects.

If confirmed by the Senate, Driscoll will succeed Commissioner Joan McDonald, who Cuomo appointed in 2011.

The nomination was one of eight announced by Cuomo as the Democratic governor enters his second term.
