DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) - A former correctional officer in Devils Lake accused of having sexual contact with an inmate has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge under a plea agreement with prosecutors.

Jonathan Defoe faced a felony sexual assault charge in connection with the alleged incident with a female inmate at the Lake Region Law Enforcement Center last July. He could have faced up to five years in prison if convicted of that charge.

Court documents show that Defoe this week pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor sexual assault charge. If a judge agrees, he will be sentenced to serve 10 days at a halfway house, pay a $250 fine and spend two years on unsupervised probation. He will be given credit for one day already served in custody.
