HOUSTON (AP) - They’re going to party like it’s 1965.

The Houston Astrodome will be open to visitors Thursday for its 50th birthday party. A half-century ago on this date, Mickey Mantle hit a home run in an exhibition baseball game that opened the so-called “Eighth Wonder of the World.”

The party runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with music and food including the stadium’s famous “Dome dogs.”

Donors and hotel tax receipts will fund the bill.

The former home of the Houston Astros and Houston Oilers, the Astrodome has stood vacant for several years as county officials try to determine what to do with the building.
