HOOVER, Ala. (AP) - A forensic technician has been accused of stealing drugs from an evidence vault.

Brandi Mikkel Hicks was charged April 1 with trafficking heroin and cocaine and first- and second-degree property theft. WBMA-TV (https://bit.ly/1PpEzSB ) reports Hicks was being held at the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling more than $2 million. It was unclear Thursday whether she had an attorney.

Hoover police Capt. Gregg Rector said the investigation started after numerous items went missing from the laboratory of the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.
