DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - Police say a man tried to force his way into a residence before resisting arrest and spitting blood on a Dubuque police officer last week.

The Telegraph Herald (https://bit.ly/1yXUZHm ) reports Jason D. Hocking of Benton, Wisconsin, is charged with several crimes, including assault on a person in certain occupations. Online court records don’t list an attorney for him.

Police were called to a business after receiving a report of someone bleeding in the bathroom. They found Hocking and took him to a hospital.

Authorities say they followed a blood trail from the store to an apartment complex, where someone said they struck a man several times to stop him from getting inside.

Police say Hocking resisted arrest at the hospital and spit blood onto a police officer’s arm and face.
