ST. LOUIS (AP) - The National Weather Service says stormy weather that roiled portions of Missouri with strong winds, drenching rains and hail is expected to linger before making way for clear skies and warmth into the weekend.

Meteorologist Jim Sieveking with the weather service near St. Louis says severe weather in recent days dumped 3 to 4 inches of rain on parts of the state, as well as hail.

He says the weather service as early as Friday could inspect whether blown-off roofs and toppled trees and power lines Wednesday near Potosi south of St. Louis were the result of a tornado.

The region’s respite from the severe weather early Thursday was expected to end by late afternoon. Sieveking says clear skies and highs in the upper 60s were expected Friday and Saturday.
