LOS ANGELES (AP) - Police say officers shot and killed an armed man suspected in a fatal shooting minutes earlier east of downtown Los Angeles.

Officer Liliana Preciado says officers investigating gunshots late Wednesday in Boyle Heights came upon a man collapsed in the street with bullet wounds.

The officers called for backup and a helicopter crew located a suspect blocks away.

Preciado says officers confronted the man and opened fire when he brandished a gun.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man shot earlier also died.

No officers were injured.
