AMHERST, Mass. (AP) - An Orleans woman authorities say struck and killed a University of Massachusetts student walking along the side of an Amherst street last summer has been indicted on a motor vehicle homicide charge.

The Northwestern district attorney’s office announced Wednesday that 64-year-old Cynthia May is scheduled to be arraigned April 17 in Hampshire Superior Court in connection with the July 31 death of 20-year-old Hannah Frilot, of Arizona.

Authorities say Frilot, an industrial engineering student, was walking along the side of a road with a friend when she was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by May. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

May stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

The other pedestrian suffered minor injuries and was treated at hospital.
