PEARL, Miss. (AP) - The City of Pearl is paying a $7,500 civil fine for doing construction work in a ditch without getting a stormwater permit.

The city agreed to pay the fine to the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality after it started a cleanup project in a ditch along North Bierdeman Road in August 2013 without obtaining the required permit. An order from the environmental regulator shows the city later sought a permit, installed sediment and erosion controls, and planted vegetation to stabilize the site.

Pearl Mayor Brad Rogers signed the order Jan. 21, agreeing to waive hearing rights and pay the fine.
