BRAINTREE, Mass. (AP) - Braintree police have arrested a 14-year-old boy they say brought a loaded 9 mm handgun to school.

Police Chief Russell Jenkins says the weapon was found in the boy’s locker at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic school on Wednesday morning.

Jenkins tells The Patriot Ledger (https://bit.ly/1FlZ0gt ) police received a tip from another student that the boy had bragged about the weapon. Information was also received that the gun had been seen in the boy’s backpack.

The student, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and related offenses. He was being held without bail for a closed arraignment Thursday.

The school suspended the student indefinitely.

St. Francis of Assisi School has about 300 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade.
