SALEM, N.H. (AP) - Police say a former restaurant worker had coffee and a conversation with the manager - then held up a large kitchen knife and demanded cash from a lockbox and safe as the manager started to open the business.

Police say the manager at Bertucci’s restaurant in the Mall at Rockingham Park turned over the money Thursday morning, then called 911. He told the police he had worked with the man at the restaurant for many years.

The suspect was found and arrested on a robbery charge a short time later. He was identified as 45-year-old Michael Schwerin of Derry.

Schwerin was being held without bail and has asked for an attorney. He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Salem.
