NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - Full-time faculty and graduate students at Rutgers University have approved a new three-year contract that includes pay raises.

The teachers’ union said Thursday that more than 97 percent of faculty members with the Rutgers University American Association of University Professors-American Federation of Teachers voted to approve the contract.

The contract raises pay by an average of 8 percent. The union represents more than 7,000 faculty and graduate assistants.

Rutgers said last month that it was pleased with the deal, which runs through 2018. It includes a $2,345 salary increase retroactive to last September and other across-the-board and merit raises.

Rutgers professors are paid more than any other college professors in the state outside of the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
