FRONT ROYAL, Va. (AP) - Shenandoah National Park says a 35-acre section of Big Meadows will be burned to prevent trees and shrubs from encroaching on the area.

The park says the goal is maintain the area’s open vista. The area to be burned is across from the Byrd Visitor Center.

The prescribed burn will be conducted sometime between April 13 and May 15. It’s expected to be completed in one day.

Access to the Big Meadows area will be restricted during the burn.
