VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - Virginia Beach has banned advertising signs on bicycles along a bike path next to its Boardwalk.

The Virginian-Pilot (https://bit.ly/1ycBIY3) reports the City Council approved the ordinance change Tuesday night.

Advertising signs on bicycles are still allowed on city streets.

In November, Attorney General Mark Herring wrote Del. Bill DeSteph that the city does not have zoning authority to regulate mobile bicycle billboards on public streets. The Virginia Beach Republican had requested the opinion.

DeSteph had run campaign ads on Virginia Beach company Bike Banner’s bicycle trailer signs when he ran for City Council.
