MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - A man was rescued from a sewer in Manchester, New Hampshire after a passerby saw a hand waving at him from the drain.

Bob Gober tells WMUR-TV he called 911 after seeing hands coming out of the sewer cover when he walked out of Home Depot.

Firefighters say the 19-year-old man probably crawled through an open pipe nearby and became trapped. But he was able to get his fingers through the grates by standing in an inlet pipe.

When firefighters arrived the man was 10 feet down and partially submerged in chilly water. The man said he did not know who he was or how he got there.

He was treated for hypothermia at Elliot Hospital. Officials say there’s no word how long he had been down there.
