SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Authorities have filed charges against a Layton man accused of beating and choking an ex-girlfriend while holding her in her apartment for 20 hours.

The Standard Examiner newspaper in Ogden reported Tuesday (https://bit.ly/1MmM2SV) that prosecutors say the 21-year-old man forced her into her home at knifepoint, demanded drugs and told her she wasn’t going to leave him.

Over the nearly daylong struggle, prosecutors say that Benjamin Burnside threatened to kill her with a golf club, covered her face with a pillow and hit her when she tried to call 911.

Authorities say she escaped after she convinced him to leave to get food. She went to police who documented her injuries.

Burnside is facing aggravated kidnapping and burglary charges. No attorney was immediately listed for him in court records.
