ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Police in Rochester are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in broad daylight in the parking lot of a community center while children were inside the building.

Officials say 23-year-old Jonathan Padilla of Rochester was gunned down shortly before 2 p.m. Monday outside the David F. Gantt Community Center on North Street. Police said he was shot multiple times.

Padilla was transported to Strong Hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.

The shooting occurred next to the center’s outdoor playground. Neighborhood residents say the playground normally would have been filled with children but Monday’s rain forced activities inside.

The building was locked down while police investigated the shooting.

No arrests have been reported.
