BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) - A man convicted in a fatal March stabbing has been sentenced to more than 18 years in prison.
The Bellingham Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1WfF2KB) 45-year-old William Ralph Smith was convicted of stabbing 25-year-old Jeremy McClellan to death in March. He was convicted in June of first-degree manslaughter.
Smith was sentenced Monday to 18 years and two months in prison with three months of probation.
In court, he apologized to the family, saying McClellan and he were at the wrong place at the wrong time and high on drugs at the time. Smith said he was standing his ground.
Prosecutors argued that evidence showed Smith chased McClellan and stabbed him repeatedly.
