SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) - A prison guard who admitted to pointing a loaded gun at a driver during a road rage incident near Paso Robles will be sentenced next month.

The Fresno Bee reports ( ) 53-year-old Anthony James Behrens was found guilty Friday in the July 2014 incident.

Behrens, a sergeant at Kern Valley State Prison, was riding in a Prius with his family when a Ford Expedition carrying a couple and their two children reportedly merged in front of them. The Prius then got in front of the Expedition and “brake checked” the vehicle, and the driver of the Expedition tailgated the Prius.

Behrens pulled out a loaded handgun and pointed its laser at the Expedition.

Behrens told authorities he had been scared for his family’s safety.

Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 2.
