CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - State education officials are releasing the results of this year’s annual assessment test.

The preliminary statewide results are due to be released Wednesday. The tests administered in the spring are used to assess students’ proficiency in math and reading and language arts in grades three through 11, and in science for grades four, six and 10.

The General Summative Assessment replaced the West Virginia Educational Standards Test 2, or WESTEST 2. The new test is considered more challenging for students.
