GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a woman was injured when a second-story deck collapsed during her 80th birthday celebration at a home in western Michigan.

The collapse happened Tuesday night in Kent County’s Grand Rapids Township.

Fire department Sgt. Steve Hammond tells The Grand Rapids Press that 12 people were on the deck during the celebration when part of the 20-by-15-foot structure collapsed toward the home. The woman slid toward the ground and was helped by relatives.

WOOD-TV reports the woman was hospitalized with a cut on her head but is expected to be OK.

Hammond says the cause of the collapse wasn’t immediately known. No other injuries were reported beyond scrapes and bruises.
