NEWTON, Iowa (AP) - A central Iowa police officer has been accused of assaulting his fiancée.
The Newton Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/1DMmons ) that 29-year-old Dustin Hamell, of Newton, is charged with domestic assault and has been placed on administrative leave. His attorney, F. Montgomery Brown, told The Associated Press Wednesday that Hamell will plead not guilty and request a jury trial.
Court records say Hamell slammed a door on her arm and pushed her twice on July 29.
Hamell has been on the Newton force for three years.
