PERU, Ind. (AP) - A jury has found a Mississippi man guilty in the 1992 strangulation death of an Indiana woman.

The Kokomo Tribune ( ) reports a jury convicted 55-year-old Timothy Jimerson Tuesday on a charge of voluntary manslaughter with a deadly weapon in the death of 27-year-old Toni Spicer. She was found dead in her Miami County home.

Jimerson was arrested in 2012 after he was linked to the killing through DNA testing. Prosecutors say Jimerson told detectives that he strangled Spicer with pantyhose.

Jimerson’s attorney argued authorities got a false confession out of him. Jimerson testified Tuesday that he woke up in Spicer’s home after taking painkillers the night before, and found Spicer dead in a bedroom.

A judge rejected a plea agreement in the case in March 2014. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for next month.
