PALMYRA, Maine (AP) - Maine law enforcement officials say a motorcyclist suffered “possible life-threatening injuries” in a collision with a car in Palmyra.

Somersworth County deputies say 36-year-old Chad Wynne of Fairfield was not wearing a helmet when he was struck at the intersection of Route 2 and Ell Hill Road on Wednesday.

Wynne was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Investigators say speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors. Deputies say the intersection has been the scene of “numerous crashes” over the years.

The driver of the Ford Explorer - 75-year-old David Roundy - was not injured in the crash. Deputies say Roundy had stopped at the stop sign and then proceeded to cross the intersection when the accident occurred.

The investigation is ongoing.
