GRAY COURT, S.C. (AP) - ZF Transmissions expects to create 545 new jobs over the next five years with an expansion in Laurens County.

The company announced plans Wednesday to invest $22.5 million in additional manufacturing and warehouse space in Gray Court. The expected jobs will increase the company’s workforce to more than 2,000.

The company says the expansion should be finished in early 2016.

It has bought an existing 150,000-square-foot facility near Interstate 385. The state approved a $1.2 million grant to Laurens County to help buy the land.

ZF Transmissions currently can produce 1.2 million eight-speed and nine-speed automatic transmissions annually. It last announced a $175 million expansion of its Gray Court operations in 2013.
