HEMET, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a man is dead after a confrontation with officers near Highway 74 in Hemet.

The Press-Enterprise reports (https://bit.ly/1P945tf ) Deputy Armando Munoz confirmed that one male had died and that no officers had been injured in the incident Wednesday.

A sheriff’s deputy had reported that there were shots fired around 4:45 p.m. Minutes later, the officer reported that a suspect was inside a vehicle, refusing to show his hands and comply with officers’ demands.

Deputies reported that the man inside the vehicle was slumped over but appeared to be moving slightly.

Sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Mike Vasquez says a deputy had opened fire at one point.

An employee at the Motel 6 nearby says she heard about a dozen gunshots and was told to keep all guests inside.
