BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - A Billings man who shot a woman to death while she was on the phone with a 911 dispatcher has been sentenced to 110 years in prison.

The Billings Gazette reports (https://goo.gl/UWRfNj ) Richard Douglas Reinert Jr. was sentenced Thursday for the Dec. 21, 2013, death of 25-year-old Jessica Stephenson at his home.

Prosecutors say Reinert shot Stephenson multiple times in the head and chest while she was calling 911 to report he was drunk and fighting with his wife, 27-year-old Danielle Reinert.

Reinert’s attorneys argued he used justifiable force in killing Stephenson because he was acting in self-defense.

At Thursday’s hearing, Deputy County Attorney Ed Zink said the sentence held Reinert accountable and provided justice for Stephenson’s family.
