FLORENCE, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a California woman has died after a 10-hour mountain hike in Arizona’s Pinal County.

County Sheriff’s officials say they received an emergency call about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday from a 71-year-old man in the Superstition Wilderness area.

The man reported that his 65-year-old wife had passed out about a mile from the Peralta Trailhead.

A rescue team arrived at the trailhead with Apache Junction Fire District personnel and say the woman was unconscious and not breathing.

Despite resuscitation efforts, authorities say she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the woman wasn’t immediately released.

Authorities say the couple was visiting from Los Angeles and were experienced hikers.

Sheriff’s officials say foul play isn’t suspected and the county medical examiner will try to determine the cause of death.
