OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Protesters blocked traffic on an Oakland freeway following the death of a carjacking suspect who authorities say was armed when he was shot during a confrontation with police.

KGO-TV reports (https://abc7ne.ws/1HItg0p) about four dozen protesters started their Wednesday night march at the scene of the shooting, making their way onto Interstate 980 and briefly blocking two off-ramps.

Trash bins were lit on fire and a Starbucks store window was broken.

The 24-year-old suspect has not been identified. Police spokeswoman Officer Johnna Watson says officers were pursuing a vehicle suspected to have been involved in an armed robbery when the driver crashed into another vehicle and fled on foot.

Authorities say he had a gun, and was shot while attempting to steal a vehicle.

The shooting is under investigation.
