MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - A Missoula man is dead and two other people are recovering from injuries caused when drivers tried to avoid a tree felled by hurricane-like winds on Interstate 90.

The Missoulian reports (https://bit.ly/1NcWmvX) a driver trying to miss part of the tree sideswiped a semitrailer Monday night, pushing both off the road.

The co-driver of the truck was hit by another vehicle while he was setting up hazard markers and is recovering from surgery. The driver of the vehicle is in critical condition.

Montana Highway Patrol Sgt. Roman Zylawy says shortly after the second collision, 21-year-old Chris Ramsey crashed a 2009 Honda Ridgeline into the tree at a high speed and was later pronounced dead at a Missoula hospital.

Zylawy said it was a “freak accident.”
