BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a Birmingham kindergartner is hospitalized after a cluster of lockers fell on her.

Birmingham Fire Rescue Battalion Chief C.W. Mardis tells AL.com (https://bit.ly/1P9VvKZ ) the incident happened Thursday morning at Lewis Elementary School and the girl has been taken to Children’s of Alabama.

Birmingham City Schools Superintendent Kelley Castlin-Gacutan told local media she went the hospital to meet the girl and her family and says the girl appeared to be in good condition.

The superintendent says the girl had opened her locker and was inside of it after the bank of small lockers toppled onto her.

The superintendent says the lockers should have been tightly secured to the wall and crews are now assessing lockers in the building and at others schools.
