OZARK, Mo. (AP) - A man who narrowly lost an election in a southwest Missouri sheriff’s race wants a recount.

Ralph Phillips lost to new Christian County Sheriff Brad Cole by only four votes out of more than 10,000 cast in the Aug. 4 election.

KYTV reports ( ) the recount request will be heard Monday by Christian County Circuit Judge Laura Johnson, who must issue an order for the county clerk to conduct a recount.

Phillips has asked for a recount, even though Cole hired him as a lieutenant after the election.

Cole said Wednesday the recount request doesn’t affect his decision to hire Phillips.

The new sheriff will replace Joey Kyle, who resigned and faces a year in federal prison after pleading guilty to embezzlement and money laundering.
